Introduction

While we may not think about it on a daily basis, animals are important to the lives we lead. They are a source of food and labor on farms. In aquariums and zoos, they give us a glimpse of an exotic world that few of us will ever see up close. In our homes, they are beloved pets, providing us with protection and companionship.

Like their American counterparts, the French love their pets, and they are particularly fond of dogs. In fact, there are more dogs in France than there are children! Moreover, dogs are welcome to accompany their owners anywhere, as long they are well-behaved and on a leash or carried in your arms.

In this unit, we are going to learn to talk about animals and their owners. To do this, we will begin by learning new vocabulary words for various animals. We will also review the definite and indefinite articles, as well as larger numbers through 1,000.
