Introduction

The name, Aquitaine, comes from the Latin aquae, a reference to the many lakes, rivers, and beaches that characterize the area.

Once amicably linked to the Plantagenet royal line, Aquitaine continues to be a much-favored site for vacationing and real-estate to nearby British neighbors.

One of the largest provinces in France, it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Pyrenees mountains to the south.
