Overview
Standing trees are measured to obtain an estimate of the amount of various products which might or can be cut from the tree. This is performed to have an idea of what volume is present in a tree or a stand of trees. Today most timber sales are based on volume. A forest or stand must have some estimate of total volume, volume per acre and volume by product so that the forester can decide on his management objectives.
