Common Core Literacy Skills Strategy
Even after reading the three sections from Of Plymouth Plantation one time, you may still be a little confused about the content of the account, primarily because the everyday language of Bradford's time is not the everyday language of today. To help you understand what William Bradford was writing and the purpose of his writing, let's use the Common Core Literary Skills Strategy called Source Summary.
- Choose one of the following sections from Of Plymouth Plantation: “On the Mayflower” and “Treaty with the Indians”.
- Fill in the Source Summary sheet answering five important questions. You can download the Source Summary Sheet here.
- Submit this sheet to the 1.03 Source Summary Dropbox.
Now that you have read through Bradford's three sections in Of Plymouth Plantation and have seen a sample rewrite of his work, it's time for you to rewrite his words in today's language. You will be rewriting “On the Mayflower” or the “Treaty with the Indians” section in today's everyday language. As you write, use your Source Summary Sheet you created in Task 1. Submit your rewrites to the 1.03 Of Plymouth Plantation Rewrite Dropbox.
