Timeline of Events

Begin planning your story by creating a timeline of events in your plot that will lead up to a climax.

Many times, the events of the plot can be diagrammed on a rising line such as the one below:

Plot Map

As you begin to plan the timeline of your story, list the events of your story in the same way.

  • Characters:  List the protagonist, the antagonist and any minor characters you are including in your story.

  • Exposition:  This is where you introduce the characters and setting.

  • Rising Action:  The protagonist and antagonist meet and begin their struggle.

  • Climax:  The highest point of the struggle between these two characters.

  • Resolution:  The ending of the story.  It is important to let the reader know how the story ends.  This may be one paragraph long or several paragraphs long.

Create your plan for your story using this same outline and submit it to the 3.01 Children's Short Story Plan Dropbox for your teacher to review.
