Task #1

Find a career that you would like to explore and share with your classmates. You may use the results from the Interest Profiler to help you.

Create a presentation, using PowerPoint or other presentation software, about the career you have chosen.

You must include the following slides.

  • Slide 1 Career Choice - What is the title of your career?
  • Slide 2 Career Overview - What is an overview or synopsis about your career choice? Discuss the job title and nature of work.
  • Slide 3 Job Description - What are the on-the-job duties? What tasks would you be performing each day?
  • Slide 4 Education and Training - How many years of college are required? Are there other types of training or certification required?
  • Slide 5 Wages / Pay - What is the salary range or pay scale? Is there anything that could enhance your earnings such as an additional degree?
  • Slide 6 Related Occupations - What jobs are similar to this?
  • Slide 7 Skills Needed - What is the experience required? Are there necessary skills or abilities that are needed to complete the task?
  • Slide 8 Working Conditions - Will you be working inside or outside? Will you have regular hours or shiftwork? What are the physical demands? Is there travel involved? Are there any other advantages or disadvantages?
  • Slide 9 Interest - Are you interested in this career? What are some of the skills that you have that are related to this career?
  • Slide 10 Plans - What are your future steps towards a career?

  • visuals enhance understanding of career
  • contains all ten slides
  • informs the readers
  • uses correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar

Once you have submitted your presentation, view all of your classmates' presentations and comment on two classmates' presentations that you may be interested in pursuing.

Create a résumé for the job you explored. Open 10.05 Résumé. Fill in the resume template according to the events in your life.

Criteria about résumé writing:

  • information demonstrates ability to perform the job
  • headings covered in detail
  • lists relevant skills
  • one - two pages in length
  • provides accurate information
  • uses correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling
