Task #1

You are going to rewrite a popular fairy tale as a one-act play. Look at the two examples below from students who rewrote Cinderella.

Choose from one of the fairy tales below.

  1. "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp"

  2. "Beauty and the Beast"

  3. "Cinderella"

  4. "The Elves and the Shoemaker"

  5. "The Frog-Prince"

  6. "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"

  7. "Rumpelstiltskin"

  8. "The Tinder-Box"

Then, establish your characters and introduce the conflict through dialogue. Add stage directions to help move the play along. Stage directions help the reader to visualize how the play would look onstage where the actors speak their lines and move around the stage. Your play should contain three to five scenes. Each scene should take place at a different location.
