Introduction

"Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary."

- Khalil Gibran

Why do you write? Do you write for pleasure or because your teacher told you to write?

Poetry is one of the world's oldest art forms. Poetry is also used for healing, and it may be traced back as far as primitive man where individuals would write poetry, ingest it, and hope the effects would prove physical and emotional renewal. Poetry therapy has been practiced in the United States for over 200 years. To learn more about poetry as a means of therapy, visit the National Association for Poetry Therapy.
