Introduction

Have you ever considered all the books written by authors using simply pen and paper? And how long it must have taken them to complete using such simple tools?

Of course, the invention of the typewriter in the late 1800s was a giant leap from pen and paper, but it was not until 1960s that the innovations of IBM led to the concept of word processing.

Some of those original features we would recognize today, but early equipment was quite limited.

 

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • Utilize word processing software to demonstrate writing skills by producing and editing business and business and personal correspondence documents.
  • Utilize advanced features of word processing (developing forms; tracking changes, hyperlinks, mail merge, etc.) in business and personal documents.

  • A command of common office software applications is a basic skill and is necessary for employment in many professions.
  • Office applications (database, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation) are universal tools for communicating information in personal, professional and educational settings.
