Services

You have already learned about the four main types of services offered by banks. Can you name them?

In addition to those main services, banks and credit unions provide other services.

Cashier's checks

Occasionally, you will need a cashier's check which is a check that is drawn from the bank's own funds when the person receiving your money needs something a little more secure than a personal check. You simply write a check to the bank, who then writes a check to whomever you need to pay. A common example is when you are paying a down payment on a house or a car (typically high amounts). Most banks charge a fee of around $10 for cashier's checks.

Notary Public

According to National Notary Association, a notary public "is an official of integrity appointed by state government - typically by the secretary of state - to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents." Many documents are required to be notarized approved by a notary public . Most banks have a notary public on staff, who can accurately identify you because of your ID and the information that's in your bank account.

A notary stamp used to signify that a notary public has witnessed the signing of documents.
