Introduction

Collage

Have you ever kept pictures, concert tickets, flowers, cards and other things that people have given you? If so, did you ever use any of them to create something on paper that told a person about you? Sometimes in English or other classes, your teachers have you create a collage of words or pictures about yourself for others to learn about you.

Romare Bearden

Collage is a technique in art that a lot of artists use to convey their ideas to others. There are several collage artists around, but one of the most famous is Romare Bearden. Perhaps, you have heard of him! If you haven't, get ready to learn about him!

Much like Charlie Lucas uses found objects to create his sculptures, Romare Bearden experimented withmany different mediums and artistic styles. He is best known for his richly textured collages, two of which appeared on the covers of Fortune and Time magazines, in 1968.
