Lab Assignment: Water within a Hydrate Background When a hydrated salt is heated, the water associated with the salt hydrate will be driven off leaving an anhydrous salt with a lower molar mass. In this lab, you will heat a sample of salt with an unknown amount of water associated with it to drive the water and then use the mass of the salt before and after dehydration to determine the number of water molecules in each formula unit of the salt. |
