Introduction

AP Chemistry, Semester 1, Unit Stoichiometry of Formulas and Equations

Chapter 3: Stoichiometry of Formulas and Equations

  • Read sections 3.1-2.5 (pages 86-122)
  • After reading both the text book and the web site, take the unit quiz 18 points
  • Answer the problem set found at the end of the lesson 2 points each: 46 points
  • Lab: Water within a Hydrate 20 points
  • Lab: Stoichiometry 15 points
  • Lab: Precipitation of Chalk 15 points
  • At the end of the Unit, answer the Free Response Question 20 points

Chapter 3 looks at one of the most fundamental units of measurement that chemistry uses today…the mole. This unit will introduce us to the accounting methods used in chemical reactions.

Topics:

  • Chemical Equations
  • An Introduction to Chemical Reactions and Equations
  • Balancing Chemical Equations
  • The Mole
  • The Mole and Avogadro's Number
  • Introducing Conversions of Masses, Moles, and Number of Particles
  • Solving Problems Involving Mass/Mole Relationships
  • Finding Empirical and Molecular Formulas
  • Stoichiometry and Chemical Equations
  • Finding Limiting Reagents
