Talking about other people

Key ConceptsYou might be guessing at this point what this is going to mean. Now we have to look at the same questions again to see what changes may take place when we are talking about these other people. Look to see how we would ask our same four questions that have been our focus. You can click on the question to hear it spoken. Remember to repeat every time you have the chance.

sick woman
house
introduction
globe

The good news for us at this point is that in order to answer the question, we often can just reverse the word order of the sentence. Pay attention to the order of the words in the question and then in the response given.

Question Response
Wie geht es der Frau? Es geht der Frau gut.
Woher kommt der Mann? Der Mann kommt aus Österreich.
Wie heißt das Fräulein ? Das Fräulein heißt Laura Günter.
Wo wohnt das Kind ? Das Kind wohnt in Deutschland.

Do you see how you can talk about others simply using the same basic words that are in the question?

Practice

Speaking Assignment

Graded AssignmentOnce you are feeling very confident with your skills in talking about another person. it is time to do a recording for your teacher. Select two people that you can talk about. You may want to use their name (Rosa, David, etc.), or what they are (der Mann, die Frau, die Freuindin, etc.). Compose four sentences about each one of these people. Tell your teacher in a recording the following information: Where each one lives, where each is from, what their names are and how they are. Be sure to use vocabulary that we are learning in this course and not information from outside sources. Be sure to use complete sentences. (The man lives in Colorado is an example of a complete sentence. In Colorado is not a complete sentence.)
This assignment is worth 16 points.
