Introduction

Take a look at the map below. In light green you see highlighted the Islamic countries surrounding the small state of Israel, a Jewish state. In darker green, you can see the countries that have been at war with Israel since its formation in 1948.

After the war, and even before it began, the Jewish people felt a strong calling to go back to their spiritual home of Israel in a movement known as Zionism, then populated with Palestinian Jews and Muslims. They had been persecuted in Europe for centuries, but no discrimination was of a greater magnitude than the Holocaust. With the aid of the British and the United States, Israel was given land for their home, but in this action displaced millions of Palestinian Muslims.

Since that time, there has been conflict among the Muslim states and Israel over their presence there.
