Introduction

As you studied in the previous lesson, the traditions practiced in France at Louis XIV's court of Versailles set the standard for other European monarchs, and in fact, these rulers set out to create royal governments very similar to that of Louis XIV's. In this lesson you are going to learn about the powerful monarchies in Russia, Prussia, and Austria that competed with France for supremacy of the European continent.
