Introduction

China is one of the most important countries in the world today. Look at the title of this lesson: China: The Giant of the East. Throughout the coming activities, you are going to be asked to think about that expression and determine whether or not you believe it is an accurate description of this country, both past and present.

World records are amazing. Some are interesting. For example, the tallest man was close to 9 feet tall. Some are random, for example the largest pizza weighed over 26,000 pounds. And some change history. The world’s biggest country is China. China has over one billion people. Even if you divided China’s population in two, you would still have more people than the Unites States.
