Analyze the Cartoon

When, in 1914, Germany made war on Britain during the First World War, Americans in 1917 accepted the challenge of saving the world "for democracy". But, in the mid-1930s, Americans no longer wanted to be responsible for the actions of those outside their borders. They isolated, or withdrew, from the world. Most Americans believed their first responsibility was in solving problems at home during the Great Depression, Besides, Americans agreed that the two "moats", the Atlantic and Pacific, would protect them from attack.
