Lesson 9.03 Combating Communism in Asia

The first battle of the Cold War erupted in June 1950 on the peninsula of Korea. The United States and its western allies provided support and military assistance to the South Korean people while the Soviet Union assisted the forces of North Korea from a distance. While the North Koreans aimed to unify the country with their acts of war, the Soviet Union and the United States fought to defend their respective ideologies and power in the world.
