Introduction
Many Americans pay little attention to politics on daily basis because life involves so much more than simply politics. However, every once in a while a politician comes along who appeals to the people on a whole new level. He or she may offer encouragement, hope, or inspiration for a positive future.
Has this happened during your lifetime? Is there a politician who has affected you in a positive or negative way? An early example of this in American politics occured with the changes brought about by Andrew Jackson and his new style of Jacksonian Democracy.
Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Explain the spoils system, the extension of voting rights, the Indian Removal Act and the common man ideal as they relate to Jacksonian Democracy.
The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: United States History I: Objective: 10.
This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R1, R2, R8, W4, W7, W9, W10
