Introduction
Do you have a group of friends you like to hang around with? You probably like the same things and share similar opinions about a lot of different topics.
We typically do not relate good feelings and politics together - especially when the Republicans and Democrats are as divided as they are currently. However, for a short time in our history, there was only one influential party and few political conflicts.
So, what caused this "Era of Good Feelings" in politics and what was life like with little political conflict? Watch Political Parties in the United States (1:38) to learn how the two major political parties developed - and what what were the parties before these two.
Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Define the Era of Good Feelings
- Explain the dynamics of economic nationalism during the Era of Good Feelings
- Describe the impact of Henry Clay's American System
- Describe the advancements in transportation particularly as part of the American System.
The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: United States History I: Objective: 9.
This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R1, R8, W4, W4, W9 and W10
