Introduction

The Treaty of Paris doubled the size of the United States and granted the Mississippi River to the U.S. --- almost.

President Jefferson recognized there was still a missing piece to the expansionism puzzle. The French controlled New Orleans at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The French were under the control of Napoleon Bonaparte. Did the U.S. want to challenge Napoleon - the conqueror of Europe? What do you think President Jefferson decided to do?
