Introduction

What makes us follow the direction of others? Why are some leaders more powerful than others? What gives certain people authority over others? Why do we need to feel connected to leaders and other people in our lives? You will explore these questions and learn more about leadership, power, authority, and networking in this lesson.

 

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of sociology, including power.
  • Relate the importance of group dynamics, including leadership.
  • Distinguish among the concepts of power, coercion, and authority.
  • Compare charismatic, traditional, and rational-length authority.
  • Explain social-networking.
