Introduction
Have you ever had a panic attack, or have you ever seen someone have one? Do you have a phobia of some kind -- some irrational fear of heights, or bugs, or closed spaces? Are you an obsessive-compulsive, or do you know someone who is? Do you ever wonder just how far your friend will go with his narcissism?
If you can say yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. Millions of Americans suffer from some type of mental illness, or disorder. This lesson will focus on a few of the major disorders and how they affect the lives of the individuals diagnosed with them.
Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Describe major psychological disorders
- Differentiate types of mental illness, including mood, anxiety, somatoform, schizophrenia, dissociative an personality disorders.
The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Psychology: Objective: 15 and 15.3.
