Introduction

Solving problems is something you do every day. These problems may be as simple as choosing what to wear. Consciously or unconsciously, you go through a certain process to solve this problem. It may be trial and error, such as trying on everything in your closet until you find the right outfit. You might consider the weather or any special events for which you want to look especially nice.

Scientists often have to solve problems, too. They go through a process to find a solution. Sometimes, they will use trial and error to find a solution. But more often, they use a process referred to as the scientific method. Watch the video Applying the Scientific Method (1:15) before proceeding. Login information.
