Introduction

Have you ever taken any electronics apart? If you look on the inside, you would see the components of an electric circuit. Every electrical device you use has a circuit inside. Depending on the device, some of them may be very complex and some may be slightly complex.

Note: Anytime you begin to look inside an electronic device, you should make sure it is unplugged.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • Identify and describe series circuits that include resistors and batteries
  • Solve circuit calculations using Ohm's Law

Enduring Understandings

  • Electricity is a form of energy that can be transformed by moving electric charges doing work in various devices.
  • An electric current requires a complete circuit through which charge can pass.
  • Series and parallel circuits are used in a multitude of devices.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Physical Science standards: 10.

This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R10, W1, W2, W3, W4, W9, and W10.
