Completing Assignments

In an ACCESS online mathematics course, you wil complete most of your assignments by first typing directly into text entry fields (answer blanks) on the provided Word document for each assignment. Then, you upload each assignment directly from your computer in an acceptable file type.

When you are given those same assignments in a face-to-face mathematics course, your teacher will ask you to either complete each assignment on a blank sheet of paper or a printed copy of the assignment. Then, you turn each assignment in to the teacher by handing the assignment directly to your teacher.

Guess what? You can also do most of your ACCESS mathematics assignments on a blank sheet of paper or a printed copy of the task document as well, but you must take some additional steps before submitting those assignments. Why? Because, you still need to upload each assignment in an acceptable file type.

Method #1 Type in the Task Document

The first way to complete an ACCESS mathematics assignment is by typing directly into answer blanks on a provided word document.

Many students prefer to complete assignments that are available as Word documents this way because it is easy to do. However, sometimes it is difficult to type in all of your work, especially with complex equations.

Write on a Sheet of Paper

The second way to complete an ACCESS mathematics assignment is by writing on a blank sheet of paper.

If you choose to write on a sheet of paper, write your name, the date, the name of your school, your facilitator’s name, and the full title of the assignment at the top of the page. Your teacher may require you to add more details. Check with your teacher before submitting any assignment that is written on paper.

You must copy each problem from the assignment onto your blank paper before working it out.

Also, make sure that your handwriting is clear and neat. Your teacher must be able to see and understand what’s written on the paper in order to grade your work correctly.

Write on a Printed Copy of the Task Document

The third way to complete an ACCESS mathematics assignment is by writing on a printed copy of the task document.

If you choose to write on a printed copy of the task document, make sure that you fill in the all of the blanks for your name, the date, the name of your school, and your facilitator’s name at the top of the page. Also, make sure that your handwriting is clear and neat. Your teacher must be able to see and understand what’s written on the printed task document in order to grade your work correctly.

You may want to delete the text entry field (answer blanks) on the task document before you print the assignment. It will make your work clearer and easier to read.

If you delete the text entry blanks on your assignment before printing it, your final work will be easier to read and grade.

File Types

Once you have completed your assignment, you are now ready to upload your assignment. You will need to save your assignment in an acceptable file type before uploading it. In this section we will focus on the top three most commonly used file types:

  • Microsoft Word (.docx) file
  • Photo of the assignment
  • Scanned PDF

If you choose to complete your assignment by typing in the answer blanks, you can save the file as a Microsoft Word (.docx) file before uploading it directly from your computer.

If you choose to complete your assignment by writing on a sheet of paper or a printed copy of the task document you can submit a picture or scan a copy of your assignment.

  • To submit a scanned copy of your assignment, you must use a scanner or other scanning device.
  • To submit a picture of your assignment, you must use a camera-enabled device. Most students use a cell phone or tablet to take a picture of their written assignments.
