The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America.
- The Constitution contains seven articles introduced by a Preamble. The Preamble not only establishes the aims, goals, of the American people, but also the Preamble is the first of its kind to introduce such a profound change in governance: "We the people of the United States..." Just this portion of the preamble shows the focus and objective of the Constitiution to be people-driven rather than state-driven in that "the people" enter into a compact with the government "to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense [sic], promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity."
