Introduction

In the previous lesson, you studied 45°-45°-90° Special Right Triangles and learned the relationships between the two legs and the hypotenuse. In this lesson, you will study another type of special right triangle: the 30°-60°-90° Special Right Triangle. This special triangle will not have the same relationship between the legs and the hypotenuse as the 45°-45°-90° special triangle because the angles are not the same.

As a quick review, remember that the shortest leg is opposite the smallest angle and the longest leg is opposite the largest angle. The measurement that falls between the two will be the third leg of the triangle. Study the following diagram:

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Use properties of a 30°-60°-90° triangle to solve problems.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Algebra I Standards: 12 & 15.

This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R2, R8, R10, W1, & W4.
