Introduction

In the previous lesson, you learned how to prove two triangles are similar using two angles in the triangle. However, you must also consider what would happen if you were not given any information about the angles. For example, what if you were given the following diagram and wanted to prove the triangles similar? How would you do it?

In this lesson, you will study how to prove triangles similar using the side-side-side (SSS) and side-angle-side (SAS) similarity theorems. Be sure to write down all important information for future reference and to use while completing the task.

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Identify the congruent angles and the proportional sides of similar triangles.
  • Identify if two triangles are similar using SSS.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Geometry Standard: 17 & 18.

This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R2, R8, R10, W1, & W4.
