Introduction

To build a house, one must start with a blueprint. A blueprint is a drawing with a vision of what the actual house will be.

Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the properties, measurement, and relationships of

  • lines,
  • angles,
  • points,
  • surfaces, and
  • solids.

So what’s the point? Why do we study geometry? As you envision what Geometry is about, look around you and think of a geometry term you feel you understand.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • To identify and name points, lines and planes
  • To identify and name terms based on the undefined terms in geometry

Enduring Understandings

  • Everything is built from points, lines and planes and follows very strict and organized rules.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Geometry standards: 1
