Although a triangle is the polygon with the smallest number of possible sides, it is one of the strongest polygons and is used to support the weight of bridges throughout the world. We will use the knowledge we have learned about triangles so far to explore new properties we can use to help us solve problems with triangles we call special right triangles.

""

Go to GeogebraTube: Exploring Special Right Triangles. See if you can determine the rules for a 45°-45°-90° triangle (1c) and a 30°-60°-90° triangle (1c). Post your rule in the 8.03 Discussion: Explore. Then, check the answers of your classmates. Can you find others who agree? Look at all of the responses and reply to the person who you think states the rules most clearly.

At the end of this lesson, student will be able to:

  • Use properties of a 45-45-90 degree triangle to solve problems
  • Use properties of a 30-60-90 degree triangle to solve problems.
