Introduction

You have learned many French verbs throughout the course, regular verbs as well as irregular verbs. As you know, regular verbs, such as ER verbs, follow a pattern, but irregular verbs, such as aller, do not. You can use the verbs you have learned to talk about the things you do every day. In this lesson, you will learn three new irregular verbs - vouloir, pouvoir, and devoir. You will use these new verbs to talk about things you want to do, can do, and must do. You will also use the negative expression ne...pas to talk about the things you cannot do, must not do, and do not want to do.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • conjugate the verb vouloir
  • conjugate the verb pouvoir
  • conjugate the verb devoir
  • describe the basic process used to build the Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel
  • give one reason why Mont Saint-Michel is the third most visited site in France

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Modern Languages: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8.
