Introduction

As you know, there is more to learning French than just learning new words. Sometimes, the word order is different, as with the French adjectives that follow nouns (un stylo rouge). Sometimes, a certain structure does not exist in French, as you learned with apostrophe s (le stylo rouge de Vincent). Also, an important part of learning French is understanding that the words do not always have the same meaning as their English counterparts, and because of this, the words can be used differently. A good example of this is expressions with avoir, which you will learn in this lesson. When using these expressions, you will use the verb avoir (to have), while in English, the verb is to be. For example, in English, you say - I am hungry - but in French, you say - I have hunger (J'ai faim).
