Expectations
Although each of you will enjoy studying the various francophone countries and will master the art of composing written sentences in French, a vital part of becoming fluent in French is the ability to communicate in French. In French I we will begin communication from the very start; mastery, however, takes practice which we will be glad to offer. We want you to practice listening to spoken French and to practice speaking yourself. There is no need to be nervous; speaking is the exciting part of learning French and will soon become your favorite part.
Think how much fun it will be to use some French expressions to friends, to classmates, and, yes, even to your parents. One of students' favorite expressions to learn is "Je t'aime." (I love you.) [dju tem].
Simply, put on your headsets and record your audio, but when you listen back to your recording, do NOT be surprised you have a Southern accent. Duh! It would take you a long time to remove your natural accent, but I promise your accent will improve over time.
In the event an assignment requires audio, you will be given instructions and will need to secure a headset from your facilitator. Your teachers anxiously await your audio recordings and will love communicating with you in French.
