Overview
Write out directions to your house from school on a piece of paper. After you finish, give your paper to someone in the class that does not know where you live. Ask the other student if they think they would be able to find this house by following these directions.
In this situation you were giving directions to a large building that probably looked different from other buildings. Now image if you were trying to give directions to a tract of timber in the middle of a huge forest. Would that be more difficult? All the trees and hills look similar. There probably won’t be any land marks nearby. That is why Legal Land Description is so important. It is a scientific way of identifying land on a topographical map for the purposes of identifying who owns the land and where it is located.
