2.06 Tree Identification: Alabama

Task #1

To complete the 2.06 Tree Guide assignment, you will create a Tree Guide presentation using any presentation software, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc. If you would like to create your guide in some other form, contact your teacher to discuss that possibility.

Requirements:

• Must include four (4) trees.
  • Begin by taking a picture of a tree you see regularly in your life. Maybe you have one in your yard, or you pass by it going to school.
  • You will need a picture of the tree and a close-up picture of leaves. Be sure you get enough of the leaves for others to identify the leaf characteristics.
• After you get at least one tree that way, you can go online to find three other trees.
  • Again, you will need images of the trees and the leaves.
• If you want to take pictures of all four of your trees, you may do that. Conversely, if you live in an area with no trees around you, you may find all your images online. However, you should contact your teacher first.
• Your presentation should have six slides. They should be:
1. Title Slide: Include the title of your presentation, your name, the date, the name of your school, and the name of your facilitator.
2. Tree #1: An image of the tree you see regularly in your life; at least one close-up image of tree's leaves, which should provide enough detail to identify some leaf characteristics.
3. Tree #2: Image of tree found in person or online; at least one close-up image of tree's leaves, which should provide enough detail to identify some leaf characteristics.
4. Tree #3: Image of tree found in person or online; at least one close-up image of tree's leaves, which should provide enough detail to identify some leaf characteristics.
5. Tree #4: Image of tree found in person or online; at least one close-up image of tree's leaves, which should provide enough detail to identify some leaf characteristics.
6. Citations: A list of citations of every image you have included in your presentation using MLA format. Be sure you list yourself as the author for the pictures you take!

Do NOT include the names of the any of the trees. Identify them as Tree #1, Tree #2, and so on.

Submit your completed 2.06 Tree Guide assignment. Save a copy of your presentation to your computer, flash drive, or cloud-based file storage! You are going to use it in the next task.

Task #2

Go to the 2.06 Identify the Trees Discussion and post your 2.06 Tree Guide presentation.

After you have posted your own presentation, look at a classmate's presentation. Attempt to identify the trees in their presentation using the images of the trees and leaves.

• Respond to your classmate's post and identify the species of trees in their presentation.
  • Only choose presentations to which no one has already responded.
  • If all the presentations have responses, find one you feel is incorrect and respond differently.
  • List your answers like this (for example): Tree #1 is a Loblolly Pine

After someone has responded to your presentation, you respond with the correct answers. Of course, you may be wrong on any pictures you took of live trees. If you are unsure, just say that!

You will be graded according to the 2.06 Identify the Trees Discussion Scoring Guide.

When participating in an online discussion, you should use formal, standard English and obey all conventions of punctuation and spelling. Avoid abbreviations or symbols used in texting, messaging, or informal conversation.
