Part 1

The first crime solved using DNA was a popular case involving Colin Pitchfork. Using the websites listed below, research this true case and create a power point presentation including the following information:

  1. Date of crime(s)
  2. Victim(s)
  3. Suspect(s)
  4. Summary of Crime
  5. Conclusion of case-if suspect was found guilty or innocent and any sentence received if found guilty
Be sure to include the following:
  • Pictures on each slide
  • Neatness, correct grammar, and originality.
  • Slide layout – minimum of 3 slides, including a title slide and works cited slide.

Using the same criteria, research another case that DNA was a key piece of evidence and include it in the same PowerPoint.

Be sure to consult the grading rubric.

Task 2

Now that you have learned about DNA typing, what are your thoughts about DNA evidence being used solely to convict a person?

Go to the 5.04 Verdict on DNA Discussion and post your thoughts on DNA evidence. Be sure your post includes specific evidence and examples from your research. In your post, include your answer to the following questions:

  1. Do you think that DNA is sufficient to determine a verdict? Explain.
  2. Choose a specific case where DNA decided the outcome to support your answer in the previous question. Briefly describe the case and how it supports your answer.
