Introduction

The atmosphere is an invisible part of the earth that is just as important to the existence of life on earth as the food and water resources that are found on its surface. Since we cannot see this part of the earth, we are not conscious of it and its importance to us and the rest of life on earth. However, if it were taken away, everyone would feel the consequences. We all depend on the air that is located within the atmosphere and the functions that it carries out.

In this lesson, you will learn about the characteristics and layers of earth's atmosphere and its importance to supporting life on earth.
