Introduction

Percy Bysshe Shelley is thought today to be one of the major British Romantic poets because of his lyric style of writing.  He was good friends with Lord Byron whom we studied in a previous lesson.  Shelley wrote much of his work with the confines of what Romantic poetry was considered at the time, but he also wrote about topics that no one else dared to touch, like incest.  He always tried to plead with his reader to strive to be better than he currently was, always reaching for higher goals.  In this lesson, you will learn more about Shelley’s life and read some of his works.
