Task
Your task is to write a sonnet imitating Donne’s style in which you choose an object to personify. Use the rhyme scheme abba abba cddc ee.
You may choose your own object or pick from the list below. Possible objects:
- phone
- computer
- iPad
- video game
- basketball
- shoes
- home
- pencil
- cup
Remember to have a consistent tone throughout the poem as well. Your tone could be one of the options below, or you could choose your own.
- angry
- sad
- annoyed
- confused
Create your sonnet in a PowerPoint presentation. Insert pictures that represent the object and/or theme personified. Choose a song to play throughout the presentation. On the last slide, discuss why you chose that particular song. Was it the opposite of what you were intending like Simon and Garfunkel’s song, or did it mean exactly what your sonnet was trying to convey? Be sure to view the 3.04 Donne rubric before getting started.
When you have finished your poem, submit it to the 3.04 Donne Dropbox.
