Introduction
When you have chosen a topic for your research paper, it is time to begin looking for supporting information. The primary source you will use will be the actual text of whatever play or poem you are analyzing. Secondary sources will be information from outside sources like encyclopedia articles, journal or magazine articles, or even books about your topic. These secondary sources are written by experts and critics. When you use information from these sources, you will need to give credit to the author who wrote the information. If you fail to do this, it is called plagiarism. This is a really big deal because plagiarism is intellectual theft! It is important to learn this technique at this point in the research process so that you can gather the proper information as you are researching.
The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to properly use MLA formatting in order to avoid plagiarism and to effectively give authors credit for their work.
