Introduction

Essential Question: Are the qualities of being a good leader based on a universal understanding or is leadership based on the expectations of a culture?

The Roman general Julius Caesar was a real person who transformed Rome into a great Roman Empire. He lived 100 BC to 44 BC, and just a year before his death, Caesar was named dictator for life and called Father of his Country. Then, in a tragic turn, Caesar was betrayed and assassinated by people he believed to be friends.

Plutarch was a Greek historian who lived from AD 46 to AD 120. He wrote biographies on famous Greek and Roman men. Shakespeare based his play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar from Plutarch’s book Lives of Noble Grecians and Romans.
