Imagine you are driving cross-country for a few weeks out of your summer. What would you ensure you had before you left?

A map, of course!

It is just as important to have a map of your paper before you begin writing. You won't save time by avoiding this step because you are mapping out the direction you want your paper to take its readers.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Determine ideas that support a thesis statement.
  • Order ideas logically.
  • Take notes for research paper.
  • Create an outline.

The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: English Language Arts, Grade 10 objectives: 10, 11, 21, 21a, 21b, 24, 26, 27, and 30.
