Macavity
Sometimes people who are born in one country choose to move to another country to live out their lives. This was the case of T. S. Eliot. Having lived as a child in St. Louis, Missouri, Eliot, as an adult, spent most of his life in England. Our poetry selection, today, comes from Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Perhaps, you have heard of the Broadway play, Cats. This play was based on the cats in Eliot’s humorous book.
Read "Macavity: The Mystery Cat." You may want to print a copy of the poem to highlight the following examples: figures of speech and rhyme scheme. Also, highlight examples in the poem that prove Macavity is mysterious.
