Summary and Tasks

Using the internet, research a young soldier named Salem Poor.  Write a short paragraph about his role in this important battle and submit it to the 7.03 Salem Poor Dropbox.

Using the internet, locate a copy of a famous painting of the Battle of Bunker Hill by artist Percy Moran.  Mr. Moran's painting was painted in 1909 and clearly illustrates how the close combat of the battle caused a great number of casualties.  Copy and paste an image of this famous painting onto the page.  Notice how the British generals led their troops up the hill into battle.

Imagine you are a soldier in the colonial army.  You have just survived the Battle of Bunker Hill, one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War.  Write a letter home to your family back in Virginia telling them of the events of the battle.  Tell them about the battle plan of the day, including the famous quote from the general.  Also, describe the scene when the British troops began advancing up the hill.  Then, tell how you managed to make it out alive.  This letter should blend historical fact with fictional details that make the event come to life.
