Task #1
When choosing a career and/or college major, it's important to evaluate your skills, interests, and values. For this assignment, you will complete three short assessments that will tell you more about each of these and then report your findings.
These assessments do not take much time, but it's important that you read every question carefully and be truthful with your answers. You want your results to reflect your true interests and skills. Once you've gotten your results, it's important that you review them carefully as you will use this information to make decisions throughout the unit.
Login to the ACPS to complete the assessments:
- Kuder Career Interests Assessment
- Kuder Skills Confidence Assessment
- Super's Work Values Inventory
If you have already completed these assessments, you may use your current results.
Note: Before the assessments appear, you are asked to select your education preference. Select the highest level of education you wish to achieve; then choose Take Assessment.

After you've completed the assessments, download and complete 7.02 ACPS Assessments. Submit your document to the 7.02 ACPS Assessments Dropbox.
Assessment results can be accessed under My Portfolio Items by clicking My Assessments > My Assessment Results. It will look similar to this:

Task #2
The awesome thing about the Alabama Career Planning System is that it takes the information from your assessments and connects it directly to college majors and careers! For this assignment, you will research a career of your choice using the ACPS. You may also use the Occupations Outlook Handbook to do your career research (if you don't find what you need on ACPS).
- Login to ACPS.
- Choose Explore Occupations tab on the left of the screen
- Choose Occupations Suggested by Assessment Results. If you did not agree with your assessment results or would simply like to learn more about a different career, click Occupations by Title and enter your career in the Search box.
- The next screen will list careers. This list might be very long, so use the Filter Options (above the Occupation names) to shorten the list. It's recommended that you “favorite” careers you like by clicking the star. This adds it to your My Favorite Occupations list, which you will use later in the unit.
After choosing a specific career, create a presentation about the career (using the software/site of your choice). Your presentation should include the following:
- Slide 1: Title Slide – Include your name and your chosen career
- Slide 2: Why you chose this career
- Slide 3: Job Overview/Tasks
- Slide 4: Education Requirements
- Slide 5: Job Outlook
- Slide 6: Salary
- Slide 7: Work Environment/Conditions
- Slide 8: Citation Page. Use MLA Format to cite the sources you used to find the information. Help with citation can be found here:
- Most slides should have an image or graphic. Refer to the Adding Images tutorial for resources and help in avoiding copyright violations.
- Use transitions and animations to enhance the presentation.
- Scoring guide
When you have completed this first draft of your presentation, post it to the 7.02 Career Presentation Discussion. You will need to attach the file to the discussion.
