Task #1
Use a word processing program to compose a cover letter to a company you would like to work for in the future. Search online the company's address, and make sure and include that address on your cover letter. The cover letter you write will accompany your résumé. Review the examples to get ideas, but make it your own composition. Be sure to use correct grammar and punctuation and always proofread your documents. Follow formatting guidelines.
Compose at least 2-3 well-written paragraphs based on the following tips, "How to Write a Cover Letter," from The University of Washington Bothell Career Services:
- Explain why you are sending the résumé.
- Tell how you learned about the job.
- Convince the reader to continue reading and also look at your résumé by spotlighting qualifications that match the job.
- Make a specific request to be considered.
Steps to complete the Task:
- Open your word processing software.
- Review the examples and follow the examples for good formatting.
- Use a block style format in which all lines of the letter are aligned at the left. The body is single spaced except for a double space between paragraphs (leaving one blank line between them.)
- Writing the Basic Business Letter from Purdue Online Writing Lab provides a good explanation of the parts and the format of a basic business letter.
- Business Letter Block Style from Cengage provides other examples
- Compose the body of your letter and customize it with your own information, and the contact information of the company you chose to write to.
- Be sure to consult the scoring guide.
- Finish up with the closing lines and save the letter. Submit your completed work to the 5.02 Cover Letter Dropbox.

- Go to the 5.02 Interview Questions Discussion and respond to the following prompt:
- In this lesson concerning interview skills, you learned that it is important to prepare for a job interview by practicing common interview questions. Pretend you are the owner of a Video Game store. Post a question you would ask a teenager who applied for a job.
- Be sure to look at the questions already posted and avoid repeating a question that has already been asked.
- Be sure you use complete sentences and correct grammar in your post.
- After several students have responded, answer at least two interview questions posted by the other students in the class. Be sure you answer using complete sentences, instead of one word answers.
