Many of the netiquette rules you will learn about apply to sending email. If you think your email is private, think again. Without additional setup, email is not encrypted—meaning that your email could possibly be read by an unintended person. An electronic message frequently makes many stops along its route. At each stop, it can be intercepted and read by snoops. Why would someone do this? For hackers it may mean stealing your private information; for business competitors, confidential data.
Beyond email's general lack of security and confidentiality, your recipient could accidentally forward your message to a host of other people you may not even know. With that in mind, always follow proper netiquette rules.
