In this lesson, you will explore the negative effects of secondhand smoke using resources from the Alabama Virtual Library. Your first task is to find an article about secondhand smoke.

  1. Go to Alabama Virtual Library: High School.
  2. Select Explora for High Schools.
  3. Enter "secondhand smoke health risks" or "vaping health risks" as your keywords. You should get several thousand results.
  4. Look at the All time filter under the search box. Select the date range Past 5 years.
  5. Find an article that looks interesting to you. Read the article, paying close attention to the evidence it uses to support its arguments.
  6. Write a summary of the article in your own words. Your summary should be at least one paragraph long and include
    1. The title of the article.
    2. A summary of its findings.
    3. The evidence supporting its findings.
    4. Your questions based on the article. This can include the additional information you have on the topic or what you did not understand.
    5. The URL for the article. To get the URL, select the Share icon (rounded arrow) and select Create Link. Choose Copy to clipboard.

You will share your summary in a "Best Post" discussion.
